The Black Eyed Peas Ripped off Alicia Keys and No One Noticed!

It's obvious that musicians influence each other more easily today with social media and digital downloading than in previous decades.  It seems like hardly anyone has noticed that it seems like the Black Eyed Peas have actually borrowed some of their material from Alicia Keys, and if they haven't I think that you will agree that this is one HELL of a coincidence.

In 2001 Alicia Keys made a strong debut with her sultry R&B hit, Fallin’ that earned her two grammy awards. Im sure the second you hear it you'll remember that beautiful, bluesy, bare-bones vocal intro.

Now, listen carefully to the 2003 hit “Let’s Get Retarded” by the Black Eyed Peas

UM.....WHAT?  Even without a background in music I'm pretty sure you will find the uncanny similarity almost instantly.
The only difference in the two intros is that the Black Eyed Peas intro is one half step lower. How was this not talked about in music media? Isn't anyone else noticing this!?

Well it's possible that the two sometimes collaborate together because there is also a STRIKING similarity in these two songs, in tempo, feel, backbeat and overall production.

This time the music in the Alicia Keys song was sped up slightly to match the tempo to help illustrate this point.  Crazy right?  The only difference in these two...can you guess?  Yup...the Black Eyed Peas song is one half step away from the alicia...this time a half step lower rather than higher.

It's almost as blatant as the time when Coldplay ripped of Joe Satriani with their hit "Viva la Vida".  Watch this vid to hear a side by side comparison of the two songs.  Satriani actually filed a lawsuit against Coldplay in 2009.  More about the settlement HERE.

So what do you think?  Rip offs or just coincidence?
